Winemaker for a Weekend
with Peter Orr
Have you ever dreamed of making your own wine? Here is your chance!
About the class
A sensory journey from the vine to wine.
Be a winemaker for a weekend with this hands-on wine-making workshop. You’ll experience everything from harvesting grapes to preparing ferments. Peter will equip you with everything you need to know to assess berry maturity and have you talking wine like a professional following his masterclass in wine tasting.
The wine produced by your class will be custom labelled, featuring a photograph of the winemakers, to commemorate your special weekend – if you’re keen you can enrol to come back and take care of this step yourself next year!
Winemaker, viticulturist and experienced wine educator, Peter Orr was appointed as the Wine & Viticulture Training Manager at the Queensland College of Wine Tourism in 2011.
With previous NSW TAFE training experience Peter saw this hands-on winemaking and training role as a new challenge with great reward in passing on the knowledge gained from over 20 years of winemaking.
Peter has eight Hunter vintages under his belt and has worked at McWilliams Mount Pleasant as well as the boutique winery – Allandale. Peter also spent ten years at James Estate Wines, growing the vineyard from 30 to 250 acres.
Currently the Manager (Oenology, Education & Training) at the College, Peter continues with the hands-on role of winemaker. He also delivers international wine training administered by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in the UK.
