About McGregor Music
Our goal at McGregor Music is to support, teach and encourage musicians to be the best they can be through in individualised lessons and specialist sectional tutors.
You will experience and learn ensemble performance, gain an introductory understanding of recording and music production techniques. In addition to your selected ‘music major’, you’ll have an opportunity to choose from electives in improvisation and music theory, composition and arranging, songwriting, performance stagecraft or music technology.
This intimate school setting will ensure you receive maximum time your tutors. Our tutors are well connected, highly prolific professional musicians, and educators, who create a vibrant collaborative atmosphere that allows students to achieve their goals.

Electives are selected during the booking process. You’re able to change you selected elective at any point before the Retreat by contacting the McGregor Office.
Now with ready access to high quality recording technology at home, it is essential to have some basic production skills. This elective will introduce you to some key music production concepts to get you on your way.
Do you want to develop your improvisation and soloing skills?
This elective focuses on learning how to apply music theory concepts and approaches to your playing and how to put these ideas into practice specifically for improvisation purposes.
Being able to arrange parts for other instruments is an essential tool for any musician, composer or music producer.
This elective will allow you to explore these concepts and develop your creativity through composition and arranging.
Songwriting is an incredibly valuable skill for any musician to have.
This elective will give you a taste of songwriting and introduce you to the essential songwriting skills required to get you developing your ideas.
It doesn’t matter if you’re performing to one person or an auditorium full of people, performing on stage can be a nerve racking experience. In this elective you will learn coping methods, techniques and how to enjoy your time on stage.
