Future Visions Art Competition 2019

University of Southern Queensland – School of Creative Arts Future Visions Art Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The University of Southern Queensland – School of Creative Arts Future Visions Art Competition (‘Competition’) is conducted by USQ Artsworx, Toowoomba, Queensland, 4350, ABN: 40 234 732 081 (USQ).
  2. The Competition entries open at 09:00 (AEST) on Thursday, 31 January 2019 and close at 23:59 (AEST), on Friday 5 April 2019 (‘the Competition Period’), judging will commence following entries closing.
  3. Information on how to enter the Competition forms part of these Terms and Conditions.  By entering the Competition you are deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
  4. Entry into this competition is free and open to all mediums. You are eligible to enter this competition if you are a South East Queensland based Senior High School Student currently undertaking visual art study/ classes at your high school (year 11 and 12).
  5. To enter entrants must complete either the online entry process by visiting Artsworx.usq.edu.au/future-visions, click ‘enter now’ follow the prompts to provide personal contact information and upload a maximum of three images of up to three works with a 25 word summary to accompany each work explaining the piece to the judges OR entrants can download a hardcopy, PDF version of the application form from the same website, complete and return via email to jenkins@usq.edu.au.
  6. One entry per person, which can include up to three separate works. Images of your work are to be submitted in the first instance as per the process outlined above, finalists will be required to deliver their works to USQ Artsworx between 23 – 26 April 2019 for the exhibition and final judging round.
  7. The total value of the Prize Pool for the Competition is AUD $2,295 and comprises of four prizes i.e
    • Frist Prize The School of Creative Arts Art Prize: $800 (cash in the form of cheque or money order);
    • Second Prize: $500 (cash in the form of cheque or money order);
    • Third Prize: $200 (cash in the form of cheque or money order);
    • McGregor Retreat Encouragement Award: Bursary to McGregor Art Winter Retreat (1 – 5 July 2019);
    • Packers Prize: $100; (cash in the form of cheque or money order);
    • Finalists: Certificate stating they are a finalist.
  8. A panel selected by the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) will select finalists following entries closing on 5 April 19. Finalists will be required to deliver their works to A Block (USQ Artsworx), USQ Toowoomba Campus, West St, Darling Heights, QLD 4350 between 23 – 26 April 19. During the delivery period a group of USQ selected volunteers will unpack and hang works, this group will select their favourite entry to receive the Packers Prize. Final judging to determine the remaining prizes will take place on 29 April 19 in the USQ Arts Gallery by a panel of USQ Visual Art representatives. The work that the panel feels most fits with the ethos of the Future Visions Competition (i.e. to showcase the professional and emerging art practices in Qld high schools) will be deemed the winner, with second and third prizes judged similarly. The McGregor Retreat Encouragement Award will go to the artist who is deemed to best benefit from exploring their medium in an intensive setting like McGregor.
  9. Finalists will be notified via email, phone or post by Friday, 12 April 19, winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on 30 April 19. Winners who are not present will be phoned or emailed following the event and appropriate actions taken to present them with their prize.
  10. Artworks will be on display are part of the exhibition for (30 April – 29 May) four weeks and can be collected between 30 – 31 May from A Block (USQ Artsworx), USQ Toowoomba Campus, West St, Darling Heights, QLD 4350.
  11. Prizes are as listed above and are non-transferable. The McGregor Retreat Encouragement Awards is not transferable or redeemable for cash and is subject to class availability. USQ Artsworx reserves the right to substitute a Prize for another Prize of equal value or greater value in the event a Prize is not able to be awarded.  Any change in the value of the Prizes between the commencement and conclusion of the Competition is not the responsibility of USQ Artsworx.
  12. In addition, any terms and conditions applicable to the Prizes and ancillary costs incurred in taking and using the Prize is the sole responsibility of the winner and not USQ Artsworx. It is the sole responsibility of the winner to check the expiry date of the Prize and use the Prize within the time limit specified. USQ accepts no liability for content of the ticketed show or associated parties actions.
  13. In the event a Prize is unclaimed, this prize will not be redrawn or reallocated by USQ.
  14. All decisions of USQ Artsworx in relation to the conduct of the Competition are binding and conclusive and no correspondence will be entered into.
  15. Your Personal Information as defined by the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) may be collected, used and disclosed by USQ Artsworx for university and competition purposes and other incidental and associated functions and activities including use in any communications publications marketing or promotional activities associated with the Competition or other university purposes. By entering the Competition you consent to USQ Artsworx using and disclosing any part of your personal information as set out above including transferring your personal information outside of Australia. You may withdraw your consent to future use and disclosure of personal information in promotional and marketing activities and publications at any time by written notice to the USQ Artsworx Privacy Officer at privacy@usq.edu.au, and upon receipt of such notice, USQ Artsworx will take reasonable steps to cease using and disclosing that personal information as soon as reasonably possible.  In some instances, USQ will not be able to cease the use or disclosure, for example, where information has been cached by others. A request to access, update or correct any personal information held by USQ should be directed to the USQ Privacy Officer.
  16. Copyright of your intellectual property remains with you, however USQ Artsworx and the USQ School of Creative Arts reserves the right to use images of you or your work to promote future Future Visions competitions. Please note your work won’t be use to promote other events.
  17. USQ Artsworx, its employees will not be liable for any claim, loss, damage, injury, cost and expense suffered, sustained or incurred (including but not limited to indirect or consequential) as a result of, arising out of, or in any way connected with the Competition or your entry (or winning and use of the Prize if a Prize winner) and you agree to indemnify and release USQ Artsworx or its employees from all such claims made or sustained as a result of entering this Competition.
  18. USQ Artsworx reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition including extending closing time of the Competition or varying the time of a draw.
  19. Neither USQ Artsworx nor any of its employees, contractors, agents, and suppliers associated with this Competition will be liable for any liability, loss, damage, or expense (including direct, indirect or consequential loss or loss of profits) suffered or incurred (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence arising out of, or in connection of the Competition, including if you are a Winner, your use of the Prize; except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the maximum allowable by law)) and the Entrant indemnifies USQ Artsworx for any loss or damage suffered from any breach by you of these Terms and Conditions. This clause survives the conclusion of the Competition.
  20. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned because of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of USQ Artsworx which may corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition or otherwise, USQ Artsworx reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition subject to any written directions under applicable legislation. USQ also reserves the right to disqualify any individual who USQ Artsworx has reason to believe has breached any of these conditions, or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise the fair and proper conduct of the Competition.
