About the film
The only film in Oscar history to receive four female acting nominations including two for best actress, All About Eve is a 1950s American drama starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and (the then unknown) Marilyn Monroe.
It follows the story of Eve Harrington (Baxter) who insinuates herself into the life of highly regarded, but aging Broadway star Margo Channing (Davis). As Eve manipulates those around Margo for her own gain, alliances are formed, love is lost and lies are revealed!
This drama-filled classic received 14 Academy Award nominations, winning 6 including Best Picture, and was praised by critics at the time of its release.
Trivia bite: All About Eve shares the record for the most Oscar nominations with Titanic (1997) and La La Land (2016). Baxter successfully lobbied to be nominated in the Best Actress category rather than the Best Supporting Actress category. This is believed to have split the votes between Baxter and Davis – effectively robbing Davis of the win.
