Classic Album: The Concert in Central Park
2018’s Classic Album project will see USQ’s music students revisit Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Concert in Central Park.”
Emerging from the 1960s folk-rock scene, Simon and Garfunkel became one of the best known duos in contemporary music – celebrated for their songwriting and harmony singing.
After a bitter split in 1970, the duo reunited in 1981 to play a benefit concert to half a million people in New York’s Central Park. The accompanying album was released in 1982 and was a commercial success – reaching number 6 on the billboard charts. The reunion however was not so successful with the duo splitting again shortly after the show.
This June, join us for an evening of classics from this legendary album including Mrs Robinson, Homeward Bound, The Boxer, Bridge over troubled water and many more!
The Classic Album Concept
Our annual Classic Album show revisits the touchstone albums, celebrated songwriters and memorable music moments from the past!
Inspired by the fact that every generation of popular musicians leaves an indelible mark on popular culture this 70 min show, produced by USQ’s 3rd year music students, looks to rework, rethink and revisit these marks.
This is an Incubator event
Incubator events showcase USQ’s emerging artists and convey a sense of raw energy and talent. Typically created as part of the artists’ learning journey, Incubator events focus on the development of ideas, skills and concepts rather than a ‘polished and finished’ product.
USQ Artsworx invites you to experience these works first hand! Bring with you an open mind and allow yourself to digest an array of exciting potential laid out in its purest form.
