2018 USQ Artsworx Season

Bought to you by a university grown from the community, our 2018 season invites you to cultivate the mind, body and spirit through the arts.

This year we encourage you to try something new, broaden your horizons and embrace the day-to-day with a sense of creativity, community and passion.

Little Village Sessions: Twilight on the Trail

A collaborative concert featuring Jen Mize and Mark Sholtez – 4 May 

Little Village is a collaborative concert between established Australian contemporary musicians, USQ Music staff, and USQ Music students.

Twilight on the Trail explores the music of the great cowboy crooners, including Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and the Sons of the Pioneers.

Join multi award-winning recording artists Mark Sholtez and Jen Mize as they lead you on a journey through the dusty canyons, in an evening of iconic cowboy songs from the golden era of American popular music.

The Guitar Sessions

The Guitar Session (new in 2018) are a celebration of the influence and reach of one of the most popular instruments today: the guitar. Featuring prominent artists from a range of genres, these shows are an opportunity to experience the vast array of styles and music which can come from this diverse and far reaching instrument.

Enjoy the music you love performed by the talented USQ music students

Romeo & Juliet – Three Ways | 27 – 30 April
A trilogy of short plays each exploring a different theme from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

CloudStreet | 31 May – 2 June
A celebration of community and a look at family connection in working class Australia.

Red Racing Hood | 28 & 29 August
Join Red and Gran, on a medium slot car track, as they fight to overcome the Major and win The Grinalong Classic!

Love & Information | 6 – 8 Sep
7 sections & 100 characters in a play which asks us to question how meaning is constructed.

Money Calls to Money: A Tale of Horror

Unseen by Donna Davis | 30 Jan – 7 Mar
Exploring symbiotic connections in our ecosystems, with reference to plant roots and fungi hyphae.

Qld Regional Arts Award | 13 Mar – 11 Apr
In Flying Arts’ 45th year, entrants into the award were asked to respond to the theme the ‘Colours of Queensland’. Artists are asked to consider what brings colour, vibrancy and life to their local community or region, drawing on personal experiences and observations.

Future Visions | 15 May – 6 Jun
The USQ School of Arts and Communication’s annual art award for Darling Downs / South east Queensland High School art students.

PHD/ DCA | 19 Jun – 18 Jul
A solo/group exhibition showcasing the work of Post-Graduate candidates in visual art.

Art Haus | 24 Jul – 15 Aug 
An annual exhibition highlighting the art practices of currently enrolled Visual Arts students (undergraduates and postgraduates).

GraduArt | 9 Nov – 7 Dec
The final showcase of USQ’s graduating visual art students

Toowoomba’s very own arthouse film night! Enjoy a comfy seat, a glass of bubbles and, the opportunity to enjoy a significant and challenging film from cinematic history.

Friday at the Flicks offers a licenced cash bar, made to order cheese boards and a complimentary post show reception – giving you the opportunity to discuss the film while enjoying nibbles.
